Mike Mann, MD, FACS
VISX, a leading laser company, honored Dr. Mann as one of the top 100 refractive surgeons in the United States in 1999. Dr. Mann is currently involved in FDA clinical studies for implantable contact lenses (ICLs), and he has taught numerous cataract and refractive surgery courses to hundreds of other ophthalmologists. Dr. Mann earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed a rotating internship at Baylor College of Medicine. He served as flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force in the United Kingdom before completing his residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University. Dr. Mann serves on the Board of Directors of the American College of Eye Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, and he regularly lectures at annual meetings. Dr. Mann currently functions as a liaison between the U.S. Congress and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is on the editorial board of Ophthalmology Management. Additionally, Dr. Mann serves on the Board of Directors for his alma mater, Centenary College, as well as for Sterling Bank, the Executive Association of Houston and the Women’s Home of Houston. He recently served an annual term as the president of the Humble Intercontinental Rotary Club and received numerous recognitions for his service as a Rotarian. He strongly supports the fine arts of Houston, including the Houston Symphony, where his wife is a governing board member, the Houston Ballet and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Dr. Mann is especially proud of his efforts to provide missionary eye care to indigenous peoples in South America and the Caribbean Sea. He and his surgical team travel annually to Mallco Rancho, Bolivia to provide eye care as part of a medical mission. Dr. Mann and his wife, Carolyn, reside in Houston and have two children. Paul Mann, MD is an ophthalmologist who recently returned to Houston to practice with his father. Their daughter, Robyn Carpenter, makes her home in Darien, Connecticut with her husband Charlie, an attorney with Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P., and their son, Ben. When not practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Mann enjoys raising Texas longhorn cattle and quarter horses at his ranch outside Bedias, Texas. Paul Mann, MD
Sharing his father’s passion for refractive surgery, Dr. Paul Mann served as Clinical Fellow of Refractive and Corneal Surgery at the Pepose Vision Institute in St. Louis, Missouri, performing refractive and corneal surgeries. While in St. Louis, Dr. Paul Mann served as Clinical Instructor at the University of Missouri School of Optometry. He is especially proud of his efforts to provide surgical instruction and care to the indigent people of central Bolivia. He recently returned from the region where his team treated over 500 individuals in need.
